Yes there is a difference. Especially to someone with allergies. Fur is what most animals have but some animals or breeds of animals have hair like humans.
Some people can be allergic to animals with fur but not to ones with hair. My roommate is one of those people. I wanna get a guinea pig but I need to know if guinea pigs have fur or hair.

Fur_ i love the little guys but am mildly allergic, despite not being allergic to other furries.

hair - I have two and they moult hair when I stroke them, not fur - I can see the individual hairs.
Don't get a guinea if you're only going to have one - guineas are social animals and need company, so unless you're going to be around alot, either get 2 piggies or a hamster - i think they also have hair, not fur
