What is the real, scientific reason we humans have hair surrounding our rectums? It seems very unsan

I look forward to the sophmoric and ridiculous answers I will get, but this is an honest inquiry and I would love to have an answer that makes sense in an evolutionary context.

What is the real, scientific reason we humans have hair surrounding our rectums? It seems very unsanitary.?

for protection.. just like our noses.. it traps bacteria and other stuff in the hair so it wouldnt reach the *actual thing*..

hope that makes sense..

to keep us warm.

Hair on humans, with the exceptions of the head, eyebrows, eyelashes, nostrils and ears is no longer necessary. As humans evolved and developed clothing, hair became less necessary. Evolution has yet to remove the unnecessary hair from humans just as it has not removed the leg bones from certain snakes and whales.

dangle berrys.thats why.

I think that as we evolve, we are getting less hairy (except possibly me.....)

Maybe the region you speak of (and 'private' regions in general) are just a little slower evolving than the rest of our bodies.

Personally, I'm a few steps down the evolutionary ladder, so I still have roughly the same amount of hair there as on the rest of my body. I realized recently that never EVER has any shirt actually contacted the skin on my back......... weird.
