Hair in the pubic area and underarm areas only appears around the onset of adolescence, because only then can it do its job. These hairs act as wicks for perspiration in order to send pheromones into the air. These pheromones are airborne hormones that can advertise one's sexual maturity and readiness, or even compatibility with a mate in some cases. They're not a big factor in human reproduction these days, but were more important in our more primitive past.

(They might also indicate sexual maturity visually.)

To protect a sensitive area passively. The same reason you have eyebrows.... they catch falling stuff before it hits your eyes....so pubic hair...

The eyes, being more delicate, also have the additional ACTIVE defense of the lashes and lids.

Nah, I think its more to increase stimulation/arrousal...creates more friction than as would someone who feels the need to go bald...biologically increased arrousal is a good thing to promote breeding and survival of the species...

In truth I can not give a definitive answer to this question, but I suspect that Pubic hair is a hold over from previous Evolutionary developements.

I also suspect that Man developed hair in this region as a Protective device for the retention of Body Heat, to protect the organs of reproduction. The other possibilities include the Body signaling Sexual Maturity, and the readiness to engage in reproduction.

Again this only speculation, and should be taken at face value.
