How can I make synthetic hair less shiny?

I am going to be wearing a sort of padding and false hair combination worked in with my own hair, but the false hair (kanekalon) is too shiny -- even my own hair is not that shiny, and I am often complemented how soft and shiny my hair is. Clearly the synthetic pieces have shine beyond human capability!

The only solution I've ever heard mentioned is to sprinkle it with powder or dirt, but since my hair (and the piece) are so dark I am afraid that would lighten the color.

I might also add, it doesn't matter if the hair becomes stiff, that's fine -- it's just arranged over a piece of padding in order to fill out some areas where my own hair is too scant to cover it, so it doesn't need to be flexible.

If anyone can help, that would be great.

yea powder then brush some out. That is what they use backstage for models when their hair is too greasy.
